How to use KartBox Laser Aligners

Thankyou for purchasing the KartBox Laser Aligners. You can use the tools to ensure your Kart is setup in a way you like, to maximise grip, speed or cornering.

The lasers are a precision product, please treat them with care and keep them in a protective box. The lasers come with a 12 month warranty, though this does not cover running them over with a race van. Should you have an incident with one of them please do not hesitate to get in touch, we can provide single replacements if necessary.

Step by step

  1. Ensure the Kart is level
  2. Remove both front wheels and clean the hubs, any dirt could make the laser inaccurate
  3. Loosen the nuts on each end of the tie rods
  4. Centre the steering column/ Steering wheel
  5. Place the lasers on each of the stub axles, Ensure the ‘FRONT’ arrow points towards the front of the kart and that they are pushed up the the ridge that stops the wheel spacers. Use the Spirit bubble to ensure both lasers are level.
  6. Turn on the lasers, both dots should be somewhere on the opposite grid.
  7. You can now use your tie rods to adjust your toe in and out, and your caster camber adjusters to setup your Kart geometry to your liking before tightening your tie rod nuts back up.

What if the dots aren’t on the grid?

This can happen for a number of reasons. You can hold a piece of paper in front of the laser grid to see how far off it may be. You may need to set your adjustments back to centre with the steering wheel straight and start again. Check again that there is no dirt under the laser on the stub axle and that they are level. If you gently move the steering wheel and the lasers come back to the grid it may not have been centred before.

More serious reason can be bent stub axles, damaged king pins and or tie rods, or a bent chassis. These may not be very obvious as just 3 degrees out will move the laser off the grid. If you are checking your geometry after an accident you may need to get your kart straightened on a jig.

How to read the grid

The Main grid is 10mmx10mm, the crosses are halfway at 5mm. The green dotted box represents 15mm. On a Senior/Junior Kart this is approximately 1 Degree. The bottom left X on the green dots is 1degree of negative camber with 1 degree of toe in.

The measurements are dependant on the distance between the lasers so are approximate. The list below shows different kart sizes.

  • Snr/Junior – 85cm between lasers 15mm per degree
  • Cadet – 75cm between lasers 13mm per degree
  • Bambino – 65cm between lasers 11mm per degree
